Sofas and Stuff

Introducing Rohan and Lou

For musicians Rohan Heath and Lou Rhodes, their home in a 19th century Hampstead townhouse is a harmonious blend of creativity and comfort. It’s an inviting space with a sense of history and soul, telling the story of two lives merging to create something unique together. It reflects a shared love of natural materials, vintage aesthetics, and thoughtful design; a style Rohan describes as “slow-roasted.”

At the heart of their living room is the sofa they designed with us - reflecting their shared love for vintage-inspired style and natural tones. Comfort was a key focus, with the design providing a perfect sanctuary to unwind after busy days composing and performing. Rohan and Lou chose a beautifully tactile velvet in a muted blue-green with contrasting fabrics and pops of colour for the scatters - a nod to their appreciation for textiles, and to the colours they experienced while staying in New Orleans.

Meet Rohan and Lou

"When we started the process of choosing the fabrics and style of our sofa, it was almost like writing a song…You start with the material. You start with a style."

Rohan Heath

We worked closely with Rohan and Lou to craft a sofa that felt as unique and personal as their own creative process. Drawing on their love of vintage fabrics and texture, we explored a range of materials to find a velvet that complemented their natural aesthetic while offering lasting durability.

Both Rohan and Lou acknowledged that there is a tendency to feel a little overwhelmed by the choice on offer, but agreed that the showroom team “were so helpful… they kind of looked at my panic and honed in, guiding us through." Their expertise made it easier for the couple to focus on their ideal fabric and colour for their home.

"The result is something above and beyond what we could have designed ourselves."

Rohan Heath

"The clothes we wear, the sofa we sit on, the cushions we snuggle up on - it’s all about fabric for us,’ says Rohan, who values natural textures and comfort in his home. Rohan and Lou have chosen the Exbury 3-seater sofa in a beautifully tactile deep green velvet, Omega Evergreen, for a timeless, yet contemporary feel. The rich green velvet is complemented by a mix of cushions in contrasting fabrics. The Cromer chair in Romo Linara forest, Whitewell chair in Pendle Tweed Alice, Herringbone Fell, Bedham footstool in Wemyss Riga Velvet Rabbit, a Burford Footstool in V&A Threads of India Mughal Arbour, Hunter and a Thistle chair in Cloth 18 Tile Monsoon.

Rohan and Lou’s BFI Pick: Paris, Texas and Frances Ha

For Rohan and Lou, certain films are made to be watched time and time again. Their first pick for the Sofas & Stuff watchlist at the BFI, is just such a movie: Wim Wenders’ Paris, Texas, with its haunting performances and meditative pacing, is a constant draw for Rohan. “The mood of that huge Texan landscape. It's like a meditation. The way you slowly get into the minds of these people, and the music draws you in."

Frances Ha is a more recent discovery, introduced by Lou. “It’s one of those films that you discover later on, years after it’s come out. You think, how did I miss it?” adds Rohan.
