Introducing Rohan Heath and Lou Rhodes

Pianist and singer-songwriter

Musician Rohan Heath and his partner, singer-songwriter Lou Rhodes, make their home in a charming 19th-century Georgian townhouse in Hampstead. This beautiful space seamlessly blends their distinct styles - eclectic vintage treasures, carefully chosen contemporary touches, and a warm, calming atmosphere. “I could not have created this space on my own”, Rohan notes, “It’s our synergy that is unique.”

The house tells the story of their shared passions and love for design, with a touch of playful sophistication in every room. Central to their family life is the sofa, a much-loved spot that serves as the backdrop for impromptu music-making sessions, intimate family gatherings, and quiet moments of cosy relaxation. It's here that their creative energy flows, and their home truly comes alive.

At Christmas, Rohan and Lou bring their own twists to tradition. Rohan's Swiss and Guyanese roots shape the festive décor and menu, while Lou's love of simplicity brings a grounding energy to their celebrations, which include a special Christmas Eve dinner with Rohan's daughters and a Christmas Day gathering with Lou’s sons. They share a love of quiet traditions, like playing the Swiss game Dog after Christmas lunch, or watching It’s a Wonderful Life together. Vintage mercury-glass ornaments and family heirlooms adorn the house and Christmas tree, bringing pops of colour to their usually muted palette. "Come Christmas all bets are off!”, says Rohan. “It’s back to the baubles, and colour plays a much bigger role.”

Meet Rohan and Lou

"For me, Christmas is all about family."

Rohan Heath

In our home, our music, our style, the best things take time.

For Rohan and Lou, home is where music-making and relaxation come together, with the sofa playing a key role in marking the end of the day. ‘It’s our cue to unplug, switch the laptop off, chill out, and recuperate,’ says Rohan.

Where creativity rests and relaxation begins

"The clothes we wear, the sofa we sit on, the cushions we snuggle up on - it’s all about fabric for us,’ says Rohan, who values natural textures and comfort in his home. Rohan and Lou have chosen the Exbury 3-seater sofa in a beautifully tactile deep green velvet, Omega Evergreen, for a timeless, yet contemporary feel. The rich green velvet is complemented by a mix of cushions in contrasting fabrics. The Cromer chair in Romo Linara forest, Whitewell chair in Pendle Tweed Alice, Herringbone Fell, Bedham footstool in Wemyss Riga Velvet Rabbit, a Burford Footstool in V&A Threads of India Mughal Arbour, Hunter and a Thistle chair in Cloth 18 Tile Monsoon.

Rohan and Lou’s BFI Pick: Paris, Texas and Frances Ha

Every family has a favourite Christmas film to enjoy together on the sofa, and for Rohan and Lou, It’s a Wonderful Life is a perennial favourite. "I watch it every year, and Lou loves it too," says Rohan.

Their picks from the Sofas & Stuff watch list at the BFI, are Wim Wenders’ Paris, Texas and Frances Ha. Paris, Texas, with its haunting performances and meditative pacing underpinned by the Ry Cooder score, never fails to draw Rohan in. “The mood of that huge Texan landscape. It's like a meditation. The way you slowly get into the minds of these people and the music draws you in."

Frances Ha is a recent discovery, introduced by Lou. "It’s one of those films that you discover later on, years after it’s come out. You think, how did I miss it?" Rohan adds.
