Introducing Greta Bellamacina

Poet and actress

Greta Bellamacina, actress and poet, lives in a vibrant Georgian house in Kent, filled with books, plants, and creative details. "A house evolves with the family," she says, "leaving room for the unexpected, for fun little details." Greta’s home reflects her bold spirit and love for individuality, and she believes, "It’s important to treat all the objects in your home as pieces of art because they play into the conversations you're having with yourself throughout the day. I think they have more power than we realise."

Her bespoke sofa, designed with us, is at the heart of her home. Situated in what was once a music room, it’s where family and friends gather for music, conversation, and connection. For Greta, the sofa is an extension of the family, a place of comfort, creativity, and expression. “It’s really freeing to be able to bring your imagination to life. To be as creative and playful with all of the details,” she shares.

Inspiration came from watercolour paintings, where a single hue seamlessly transitions into subtle gradations of tone. She envisioned a sofa that captured this effect, selecting a natural linen fabric in soft pinks that evoke a timeless, romantic feel. Greta describes it as "pinks that feel like they’ve existed before," with a nuanced, delicate quality.

Greta’s bespoke sofa sits in what was once a music room, a lively space lined with books and art where family and friends gather for music, conversation, and connection.

Her choice of fabrics reflect her intuitive approach to colour and texture. “I like the idea of using watercolours as inspiration - having one pink but with gradations, as if you’ve added water to it and the tone shifts,” she explains. “Almost like the sun hitting it and bouncing three times.” Greta selected a natural linen for its timeless, faded feel and layered it with scatter cushions in deeper pinks. lilacs, and pale greens to create a spectrum of soft, harmonious tones.

The classic shape of the Kentwell design balances the playful colours and textures. The result is a romantic, cohesive design with hidden surprises, much like her approach to writing. “It’s about creating something that feels complete but has a twist, an element of surprise,” she explains.

“The sofa is really an extension of the family. It's a homage to our love of colour, especially pink. But really, it's the place where we all sit together and be as close as we possibly can to each other."

Greta’s BFI pick: La Belle et la Bête

For Greta, films have the power to transport you into a different world. As she puts it, "Movies bring an extra layer of magic and nostalgia; they take you back to that feeling of being a child, present in the moment, letting the world fall away."

Greta’s BFI pick is La Belle et la Bête, Jean Cocteau’s 1946 Gothic masterpiece. With its enchanted castle, striking visual effects, and Jean Marais’ unforgettable portrayal of the Beast, the film blends wonder, mystery, and timeless romance. Its dreamlike pace and magical atmosphere make it a truly immersive experience, perfect for a quiet evening of cinematic enchantment.
